Mendehlsson Andante and Rondo......

Is anyone familiar with Mendehlsson's "Andante and Rondo Cappriccio"? (I know the last word isn't quite right, but it's something like that). My teacher recommended it as my next piece, but I've never heard it and cannot find a recording of it. He said it is not played much. Does anyone know if anyone has recorded it or have an opinion of it?
Thanks!
Patti

Patti: This is a wonderful opportunity for you to see what the music says to you - without having heard a recording of it to color your own musical judgment. Try working on it for a while, see what it says to you, and what you can bring to it before you buy a recording of it. This is just one useful way of stretching one's own musical skills and talents. Regards,

First of all, BruceD, thanks for suggesting not to necessarily listen to a recording. I hardly ever do that, just once in a while but most people on the forum seem to be into listening.
Ah yes, the Rondo Capriccioso takes me back to college. I get it out every now and then. I never cared a lot for the Andante but now that I'm older I'm just beginning to enjoy it more. Take lots of time with it and let it speak to you as it is quite nice.
I still have trouble with the first 2 measures of the Presto, just can't seem to get my fingers on the notes. After that I get along fine, a really good practice piece.

Bruce, I think those are good thoughts about not listening to a recording of the piece. I just don’t want to spend time with it if I don’t even like it. I just want a very general sense of the piece. Actually, I don’t usually tend to listen to recordings much when learning a piece.
Brendan, I don’t have questions about any specific parts. I’m just looking for an overall view. Is it a good piece to learn? Sounds like it is, from what Carol has to say.
Thanks everyone...
Patti
