Max W, have you heard the Myra Hess recording of Schumann's Symphonic Etudes? It's pretty much sublime.

another pitch for the Brahms Intermezzos. Unlike Andantina I couldn't sight read thru them with a gun to my head.

umm...

Bartok - Three Rondos on Folk Tunes. (this is rather torturous and I'm hoping to be finished with it soon!)

Grieg - A few lyric pieces: Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (Haven't played this for a few weeks, but am supposed to be polishing it), Notturno, March of the Trolls, Ase's Death...

Shostakovich - Fantastic Dances. These are fun--short and sweet

Haydn - a sonata... unsure which one, sorry

Lecuona - Malaguena, Danza Negra, and Danza Lucumi

Wish I could play harder stuff! *practices furiously* \:D

Yep, its one of my favourites - I'm also a fan of Nelson Friere.

Hey Sheherezade,

How are you liking A Wedding Day at Troldhaugen? I played it a couple of years ago, and lately I've been recycling it a bit, because I find it a very enjoyable piece. If you're having any trouble with it let me know, and I'll see if there is anything I can do to help.

I've definately enjoyed playing it also. Thanks for the helpful offer. I don't have any specific problems with it at the moment... just have to force myself to slow it down to get it under control every so often as I memorize it and work out some nuances. I love that there is so much room for expression in this piece.

WOW! how fast do you play the octave section? I am working on this one too. At the moment, I am quite comfortable at 108 all the way to the end; for the left hand too. I am really trying to get to 112 but it's so darn hard even to play 1 bpm faster in the last page.

That's really good that you know to play it slow. There are some pretty tricky rythms there and the only way to ingrain them in your mind and fingers is by playing it slow and evaluating each rythm. And yes, you're right about the expression part. In the poco tranquillo part, I play it through softly and sort of transparently the first time and then when it repeats I play it more clear and sharp and a little louder. Keep up the good work!

Both are for the MTA Auditions in the Spring and the Rach is for a competition to be held in March. Just polishing now, really and doing some 'funky' non-classical stuff in between. And some Christmas songs.

I am going to start on Liszt's "A la chapelle Sixtine" - I am producing a home made CD and thought it would be nice to put it on there (my wife likes the piece too, which helps!)
