I reckon some people would say that hitting the notes in the right order doesn't necessarily mean it's being 'played'...

But I see your point...

He must be looking out for the most technically challenging pieces, and then tossing them off, (if I may use that phrase), with a supercillious flick of his wrist...

(To qualify my stance on MAH, I think he's absolutely superb - musically and technically)

Hamelin is very on/off for me. I love his recordings of Liszt's Paganini Etudes.

There is no way in heck I have mixed them up. I was listening to Solokov's Rach 3. There was no way I could mix them up. Solokovs interpretation was terrible. He played some parts WAY too fast, he had plenty of mistakes (Yes I know Helfgott has mistakes as well, but not nearly enough as Solokov), and at times he was hopeless at bringing the main theme out.

I'm sorry, but I don't see why People seem to be putting Helfgott down.... He's better than some. The only reason people are probably putting him down is because he might be a little shaky at his playing... but when It comes to Rachmaninoffs 3rd... He has that done fairly well. [/QB][/QUOTE]

Reaper Man -

I'm starting to suspect it's possible you heard a rach3 by ANOTHER Sokolov? It's a common name, ya know...

Becase there is NO WAY in heck X 30 that you heard GRIGORY's Rach3 and can say it's worse that Helfgotts. NO WAY

I gotta say, Helfgott's recording is awful and pitiful. I was drawn to continue listening to it to see how much worse it could get, and it got downright ugly. However, I pity Helfgott and fell sympathy for how he had a nervous breakdown after overdoing the Rach 3...

Someone posted A recording of a Rach 3 performance about 2 months ago.... I'm sure it was Grigory Solokovs... but If I'm wrong.. then I apologize.

I didn't know there was more than one...

I pity him too.
It's touching when someone takes a Rach-overdosis... frown

I have Rudy's Rachmaninov concerti, but should never have bought those discs. His playing is rather dull.

Some can tell you to go to heck in such a manner that you would think you might actually enjoy the trip, but that is far more polite than civil - JBryan
