Today at MTNA I lost, but I got hear the winner play, and her 2nd piece was this beautiful piece by Liszt. Looks fingery, but I want to learn this piece badly now that I've heard it. Maybe not this year, though.

Is this piece as hard as Hungarian Rhapsody no.2 by Liszt?

No, it certainly has tricky moments (and I would suggest that in terms of the delicate colours you need to create and the interpretation, it is more difficult) but the HR is more difficult technically.

This is one of the Liszt pieces Solomon recorded (needs RealPlayer, or go to Amazon and listen there):

I'm glad it's not that hard. My techniques not that good.

I'd say it is harder. I found it harder anyway.

Although the bottom line on any question like this is it doesn't matter!

If you have to ask how difficult a piece is, it is probably too difficult. laugh

Is Chopin's Waltz in G-flat considered hard?

Because I've been playing it for a couple weeks now and I miss a lot of notes in the fast area. The other day I was wondering if it's a semi-hard piece or if I'm just plain bad.

Sorry to hear you lost bachmaninoff. How did you play? Were you happy with your performance? Do you remember the winner's name? Which division did you compete in?
