Just wondering your opinions about a tough decision I'm facing right now - would you agree that McGill University has the best non-conservatory music program for classical music in the country? (Since I know the Glen Gould school in Toronto is probably better, but as it is a conservatory it will not have opportunities outside of music that I will most likely be looking for while pursuing my musical studies). The reason I am wondering is because I fear the university I am studying at right now may not have the opportunities I am looking for, that of intensive training in both performance, and composition of the highest caliber. Furthermore I am interested in studying somewhere that would prepare me suitably for my desired destination for graduate studies (Paris), making Quebec universities particularly appealing to me, the only other suitable university outside of Quebec is the one i'm studying at right now.

Any advice/insight is greatly appreciated, since I imagine I will have to audition in order to transfer and most audition periods end at most a month or two from now.

I hear that Concordia university is actually quite good, as is L'universite de Montreal (though in french only). Outside of Quebec I would choose UBC. Personally, I think McGill is overated.

really? howcome? I have no idea where is best myself. I've been thinking about auditioning for Concordia as well. I really need to find a school that can meet all my needs together, since, including performance and composition, I would like to continue studying in sound recording, electronic music production, so that I can eventually succeed in my aim to push the current boundaries of electro-accoustic composition (which to me is extremely limited right now).

The website of the University of Victoria Music Department (Victoria, BC) mentions a computer music specialty - check them out at http://finearts.uvic.ca/music/computer/

"We are very active in the international computer music community... Our undergraduate curriculum begins with the study of the interrelationship among music, science and computers, followed by sound recording and digital audio, generation and manipulation of sounds by computer, and electroacoustic composition."
