This side-article came out today, I was shocked.
BACK TO THE BASICS FOR KISSIN by Ima notreial
According to his European/recording manager, the famed Russian virtuoso pianist Evgeny Kissin is set to record the complete "virtuoso pianist" of Hanon on RCA red seal. The record is set for release in Jan of. 2006. Many consider this to be a slightly more than strange idea of the Maestro's. However, when asked, Kissin gave a confident, and meaningful response : "As a child, I did not study these works, however, I feel that one can show a lot of ones creativity and ones musicality in such works as these. They are beautiful works - with many hidden voices and elaborate rubatos to be discovered" Perhaps not so surprisingly, Kissin's first label choice to record these(Deutches grammohpon) refused to allow him to record them, saying that they would "infect the high standards that we've worked to build all these years". Slightly annoyed, Mr. Kissin turned upon his first record company, RCA, and asked them about the project. They were happy to do it. "he's such a genius , such a great artist, that this guy really should deserve to record anything he likes, and these pieces are brilliant works" says their American producer, Joel Foster."It'll be curious to see how they turn out" What's in store for the future, we ask Kissin?? ......Pishcna and Czerny.

Hanon? Not sure ...
Recording Czerny ... now I think that would a reasonable idea. Czerny was a formidable pianist and composer. He was Franz Liszt's first teacher (after Adam Liszt, his father)

KISSIN STOLE MY IDEA!!! A couple years ago, I had this great idea that when I'm famous, I'll record Hanon and Czerny exercises. Why? Because when I studied these works, I struggled with them, especially Czerny (but also Hanon). I thought it would really be useful to hear a recording of a professional playing these exercises, and to play along with the CD. It's not entertainment by any means - but the recording industry is not all about entertainment, is it? Do we only record so that we can be entertained? Why then are there 100's of recordings of the same Chopin waltzes? Why then are there 100's of recordings of the same Rachmaninov Concertos? Why would we need so many if all we want is entertainment? We continue to record for the sake of entertainment but just as much for the sake of education. This disk will serve as a wonderful tool for young pianists studying these exercises. Kissin's statement - "They are beautiful works - with many hidden voices and elaborate rubatos to be discovered" - is probably more a marketing scheme to get the record companies to help him out with this. I think this is a wonderful idea, and I will definately by the CD when it comes out next year. Edit: Oh wait... haha, April Fools. Well, it's still a good idea.

Oh, these April Fool's jokes are so silly! Next, you'll be telling me that Lang Lang was inspired by Tom and Jerry cartoons. LOL!

well, it'll at least give a point of reference for people studying these exercises, and it will really show off his chops--it's the purest form of technical virtuosity there is. And it'll be interesting to see if he can actually make them interesting (quite a feat). I'll buy the CD.

Well, so far five people here said they would buy the CD if it really existed... (out of curiosity or because its a good idea). Anybody here want to risk international humiliation and actually record these? (Although, for an esteemed virtuoso, I doubt that one disc of exercises would hurt Kissin's career so much.)

Taking a giant step sideways, may I remind our little aggregation of the huge, enduring success of the Czerny-Riisager "Etudes" choreographed by Harald Lander which is now a classic and performed by just about every reputable company in the world.
