Does anyone have any thoughts on the value of learning solfege?
I'm learning this in university, and though I am becoming proficient with this whole system, I'm not sure I see the point. Sure it's great to learn new things and expand one's horizons, but what is solfege good for on a practical level?
We've spent 2 months now doing Kodaly, sightsinging, dictation, rhythm. I'd like to know if anyone who has learned this has had any oppotunity to use these skills in his day-to=day life as as musician.

I am also learning solfeg. I know that it might not seem to apply to everyday music life, but in your later music theory classes it REALLy comes in handy, ecspecially when your prof starts just playing chords and 7ths and stuff and you have to identify all the the intervals. and also, if someone ever hums a song for you, and needs you to write it down, it really comes in handy ( this has actually happened to me a couple of times)
