Elena, how much do you want?
Bruce, no offense, but it is not like these women would be handcuffed and dragged to the studio against their will...Hey, that's an idea; bikini-clad women in handcuffs! What do you think Joe?

Bruce,

Bathing suits are not underwear, but are made for "public display". We all wear them. Some of us like wearing them. While a musical professional does not want to be judged on her performance on the basis of her looks, there are many who don't mind being looked at and enjoyed. Fame brings a certain amount of...erm...exposure. If you check out many of the publicity photos chosen for use by the artists suggested by the men of the forum, it's crystal clear that they don't have any problem at all with being photographed in sexy clothes and sexy poses.

As for making money...I think the idea was a little bit of humor, you know? A classical pianist swimsuit calendar plays to kind of a narrow demographic. Johnmoolight's handcuff calendar is even more of a niche market product, but may prove to be the better seller.

It is worth remembering that we admire these women as pianists first and babes as an added treat. No harm no foul.

We're men.. as a whole we act like men, we're supposed to act like men and with any luck we will always act like men. It's not our design, and in my experience most women prefer us, within reason, that way.

As I have generated more controversy than I intended (not to mention ruffled a few peoples' feathers w/ this idea of mine) I will address points raised by many of the members:

BruceD: sorry I offended you. Naturally, I wanted all this to be taken in good clean fun. The original intention was to draw our members to the beauty of some of the remarkable female pianists out there. I think Lara St. John has demonstrated posing nude on her album cover that art is not cheapened merely by injecting a little visual **** (can't think of the noun I want). And if you look at some of these girls' websites you will find that many of them are, to varying degrees, trying to capitalize on their good looks anyway. Today beauty sells. That's a fact. When the artist is a superb musician, it just enhances the music, IMHO. Course, I could have buckled and suggested Gina Bachauer, but she would have filled up January, Febuary, March AND[/b] April. So you can see why I stuck w/ thin.

Danor wrote:
could you put Naida Cole for december?
she'z pure pwnage.
[/b] Joe T. replied: what the heck is pwnage????

IAmCanadian wrote:
Naida Cole is beautiful, but she also has some real talent. In my book she ranks as one of the most talented up-and-coming young pianists out there. [/b]
Joe T. replied: I agree 1000%. I have her finals at the Cliburn on video and she plays the Prelude #16 by Chopin in under a minute and w/ sweep, power & bravura (& yes, not a single mistake) Makes my pathetic little attempt at 1:12 seems like a drunken stumblebum.

Nunatax wrote:
Yes, you missed another Valentina! Valentina Igoshina. Cute, isn't she! [/b]
Joe T. replied:
Yes, she is definitely the classic cat's meow. GrrrrRuff!!! But she's letting herself go these days, unfortunately. Fortunately, her remarkable musical talent remains intact.

Koji wrote:
Friend of mine, great pianist, gorgeous woman:[/b]
Joe T replied:
Yes, Anna was one of the contenders and just missed by a piano wire.

T Kachu wrote:
When you all said Elena, i thought you all meant Kuschnerova. But why should she be excluded?[/b]
Joe T. replied:
Because guys wouldn't pay to see her in a bathing suit, T., sad but true.

CrashTest wrote:
But my favorite is Salome Scheidegger[/b]
Joe T. replied: She certainly has the blond hair and blue eyes. Cute, like Natasha P. Probably makes way less mistakes than Natasha, too.

EH wrote:

Joe T. replied:
See? What wrong w/ trying to make a little money off beauty!?

JohnMoonlight wrote:
Hey, that's an idea; bikini-clad women in handcuffs! What do you think Joe?[/b]
Joe T. replied:
Now that might be a little too kinky even for my tastes, John, and my tastes sometimes get near the bottom of the barrel. I doubt I could sell the girls on the idea anyway. I mean they might agree to get into bathing suits, but once it turns into a S&M/B&D-fest they might go screaming back to their practice rooms.

Opus Maximus wrote:
and nobody has mentioned Cecile Licad??[/b] Joe T. replied: I could easily have filled another 12 months and she would have been among the contenders, but the idea behind this calendar was talented pianists under 30 [/b] who are also lookers. That disqualifies her.

Thanks to all who replied. Sorry to all who were offended. Tomorrow I start calling their agents to sell them on the project. Wish me luck!!!

Joe, good idea. But why restrict your search at 12? (put 2 for each month ;-)
I'm sure there are more out there.

As a female member, I wouldn't find this offensive if
there was a male version too. Lechery, after all, is an equal opportunity pursuit. ;\) Unfortunately I can't think of 12 male pianists who would look good in swimsuits (or less) off the top of my head, other than Pogorelich in his younger days. :p Further research is needed...

And wouldn't this post be better suited to the coffee room?

I would not be surprised if some of the women posters in this forum find the premise of this thread highly offensive!

Bad call, Mr. Townleyy [/b]
Fancy that - imagining beautiful women in bathing suits - suits made to be seen by the public eye!

This is what calendars are for - how else are we going to know what the date is?! \:D

Seriously though - these girls are hot!

Neutrino,

Make it happen! You can do it.

I wouldn't wait for us guys to do it... but I don't think we'd have any objection if you did.
