I've asked this question before (at least 2 or 3 times by now) and I'm asking it again (since new people come everyday). How many of you people compose music? I like to compose, and then I put what I've done into Sibelius, which I think is THE best music notation software out there. Anyway, I have composed several things, mostly easy stuff, but I also have some pretty difficult pieces, and ones that are just plain inbetween. What are your compositions like? And, if possible, do you think that you could post them here? I curious to see, but maybe you should have them copywritten or patented first, to make sure that nobody tries to rip them off? Anyway, I'm just curious as to how many others here compose and what your compositions are like.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for sharing your music talents. On first hearing it sounds a touch of 'New Age' to me. Let me say that it is really a nice piece. I had it printed out and will try it on my piano tonight. I just had my piano tuned yesterday and moved slightly to a different angle. It sure sounded different and BETTER to me. I'll try it tonight and let you know how I respond to it when playing it myself. Thanks again.

Rgds,
AndrewG

I've already posted one of my pieces in another thread. It's neither really difficult nor too serious. I'm currently working on a concerto for piano and chamber ensemble. I'll post it somewhere when it's finished.

Pretty much just a hobby, although I did take a few composition classes when I was in school. Every now and then I'll just sit down and write something, but 99.9% of it ends up unfinished. I've got a little notebook full of musical ideas, but they just don't want to behave and become full-fledged pieces. \:\)

Wow. That was really good. Beautiful. Wish it was a bit longer, though. I hope that you continue to compose such nice work.

Very nice!

Somehow it sounds neo-Baroque in a way to me; did you perhaps write it after a counterpoint class? \:D

Schenker, actually. But I'd taken counterpoint the previous semester:

Hats off to you JS.
I haven't heard the piece yet, but from the score alone I can tell that I won't even be able to play it (I'm just a humble beginner still) let alone compose something of such quality.

But I'm sure print out the score and safe it until I will be able to play it. \:\)

I played through it about 5 times last night. I love it! I was in a melancholy mood last night and it was just right. Very expressive music.

I am jealous of your melodic and harmonic skills \:D I sometimes play preludes at church and was wondering what do I have to pay you if I play it?

BTW, there are some huge left hand intervals written in, do you really have a 12 note reach? Or was I supposed to use the right hand?

I'd be interested in your pedalling. It seems like a lot is not a bad thing.

Glad you like the piece.

I don't think there are any 12ths in the piece, but there are a couple of 10ths and yes, I can reach a 10th. \:\) They can all pretty much be rolled or rearranged if necessary. In the 2nd and 3rd measure of the second to last line, the top note of the LH could go in the RH, and that D major chord in the 4th bar could easily be rolled.

I think I actually had RH play those notes in the 4th line of the manuscript, but couldn't quite figure out how to put that F and Eb in the RH in Finale. \:\)

Not sure what I did pedaling wise - but the recording on the page is me, so maybe just listen and see if you can figure out what I did. \:\)

Thank you for sharing your prelude. I've composed a couple pieces for a quartet (xylophone, marimba, bells, vibes) and one for piano but I'm not sure how to transfer it from Finale Notepad to the internet....

Sorry for digging up this old thread but I didn't feel like spamming this forum with another thread about composing.

The piano concerto I mentioned earlier is finished now and can be heard here . Unfortunately I couldn't get some instruments to play back properly, namely the hi-hat, the flexatone, and the metal chimes. There are currently no dynamics markings at well, glissandi are not playing back either, and at the end there should be the sound of slamming the piano lid which can't be heard either.

Sorry for my bragging.
