Anybody out there play this one? What did you think? tough? There's lots of leaps in here.

I don't play it, but I think it works great as a prelude to the next one in B minor. Some of the etudes do sound like they were meant to be played together without a break.

It's quite a happy little number isn't it? How come people call it the butterfly etude? I guess it's the action of that right hand.

Deceptively difficult that one. Not for the faint of heart at tempo-- as are all the etudes, however. 'Tristesse' is more accesible, though more demanding lyrically.

I'm having a great time with it. I've been working on it the past 10-11 days and all last weekend. It's all about getting that right hand real instinctive so you can concentrate on the bass figures. I'm through the first eight bars at a reasonable speed. and the next 8 are down pretty well too. It looks like it gets tougher down there when the bass changes to leaps off of octaves. Once again, any suggestions from people who play this one are great.

I worked on it in basically sections of 8 bars, that seems logical. Yeah, the left hand octave jumps do get a bit tricky at tempo, but you just have to bounce off them. Its fun to speed up as much as possible at the little coda at the end. Loose wrist action is the only way to go, avoid too much arm movement or you'll tire (unless you can hold out for the mere 50-60 seconds).

Give you a prize if you can figure out why I chose my avatar.

I'm actually working through this rather quickly. At least more quickly than the other studies I've taken up. It's making me nervous though. There's gotta be something that's going to bog me down, as there usually is with these compositions. Though it is not noticeable by looking through the score. Hopefully, tempo will be the biggest issue I'll have here. Especially taking into consideration the heavier action on my piano. Which leads me to another question for all those experts out there. Is it o.k for me to settle on a tempo that's just a tinge slower than indicated for this piece, given the heavier action of my piano? Not that I want to half-***, but it seems almost impossible to play it at the given tempo on my piano.
