What makes this etude extremely difficult? The only thing I can think of is the fact that you need copious amounts of stamina to do the octave runs, but other than the stamina thing, I don't see why it's ranked as one the more difficult Chopin etudes.

Also would it be beneficial in any way to leave out the quarter notes and half notes in the phrases at the beginning of the piece, and just play it slowly as a good source of octave practice?
