I have to perform 3 of them for a recital. They are:

op.33 no.1 in F minor
op.33 no.2 in C (major or minor? whatever...)
op.39 no.1 in C minor

This etudes are inspired in differents paysages, moods, scenes, pictures etc, most of them not specified (or maybe none of them).

So i'm trying to figure out something to get "inspired". I have played many times this etudes but never with a specific image in mind.

So, for the ones who know them, Can you guys think in something, like a sensation that these pieces can produce to you?.

For example, when i listen to op.33 no.1, i can only think of something like russian soldiers's march on winter (lol....)

. . . . . .

I LOVE Op. 39#1 - it's one of my favorite of Rachmaninoff's pieces, and the first etude of his that I learned.

For me:

The opening is all about scary demons. The middle part is waterfalls. There are some imps later on. Learned it when I was going through a Dungeons and Dragons phase. \:D

Also, I'd highly suggest Ashkenazy's recording. It was included on a CD with the 2nd concerto in the early 80's I believe.

I've only got a recording of Op.33 no.1. Would it be possible for you to upload recordings of the other two here:

http://www.streamload.com/Roots/Upload.asp

Put in the username "uploaded" then upload the files.

Lol...

It's a very scary etude. I love the middle part that starts like a real waterfall but then it goes to minor in the manner of "not everything that shines is gold" and the keep modulating to that scherzando section that is really cool...

The end it's so...!! i can't make an harmonic analysis to those last octaves and chords in stretto... what the hell is that???

but well... i have more "inspiration" problems with the other 2 etudes, specially the first one...

My mom thinks op.33 no.1 it's boring \:D
DUH!!!

(I enjoy listening to ashkenazy's recording but i highly recommend lugansky for every one of the etudes.)
