I have just listened to the Etude Nouvelle in Ab major and I can now say that is probally one of my favorite pieces. I don't know why it isn't as well known as some of Chopin's other pieces but it is probally one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot. It just puts you in a whole nother world and you just feel completely relaxed when listening to it.

It you don't know of it yet, listen to it. It is quite easy, just two pages and it is quite easy to sightread. I can probally learn it this weekend \:D

Just because it's easy doesn't stop it from being absolutely gorgeous.

What are you guys' opinions on this piece?

I'm thinking #27 (or the third from the Trois Etudes Nouvelles)

Never listened to it before, but i'll try listening to a recording real quick (sounds great from your description).

I believe it is tne 2nd, not the 1st or the third. I just started the 2nd tonight and I have already almost learned half of it \:D

It's a really quick learn.

Hm, then did you mean Db Major instead of Ab major? No. 1 and 3 have the same key signature (No. 1 is probably F minor) and it's the key signature of Ab Major.

No, if Ab is No. 3 then it is the 3rd one (relative major to f minor). The entire piece is made up of left hand jumps and right hand chords.

It is Ab major for sure.

Yep, that's the one. No. 1 is F minor, No. 2 is Db Major, and No. 3 is the Ab Major. I've never really looked at them, though, since they're at the back of my Etude book =P

Oh, i'm downloading it right now (from a friend's website), but I have seen the music just a couple of minutes ago. It sounds quite interesting. I'll have some feedback in a couple of minutes!

You may not like as much as I but I have some sort of connection with the piece, I don't quite know what but it's strange.

It reminded me of the "Harp" Etude (Op. 25, No. 1) a bit because of the melody from the top of the chords. It's a nice, short, and sweet etude that i've never actually heard before. Maybe I should peruse more around my etude book.

I can also sympathize with your "connection" with a piece. I just have a weird feeling when I listen to Liebenstraum No. 3 by Lizst or the "Ocean" Etude (Op. 25, No. 12) by Chopin. There are always those certain songs that make my spine tingle (especially at specific times during the piece!).

It seems that all 3 Trois Etudes Nouvelles give me this feeling but the Ab one seems to stand out amongst them.

I have Louis Lortie playing the complete Chopin Etudes. I listened to it, but it did not really "hit the spot" for me.

I think that all three of them sound very nice. It's been a long time since I've listened to them, so I'm listening to them now. Not up to par with the rest of the etudes IMHO, but very nice non the less.

To be honest the first time I heard it I actually didn't think it was great, but upon more listening it really does grow on you.

Hi: I love all 3 of the posthumous etudes. I often play the f minor as an encore. Thanks for promoting these works. They aren't virtuosic which i think has something to do with their popularity. They are great music!
