I never realized that Bach's Invention No. 1 in C Major is only 22 measures long!

Have you played a piece shorter than 22 measures?

What's the shortest piece you've played?

(excluding music from method books... wink )

how fast does it play? like 10 seconds?

Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 7 is also very short, but im not sure about the measure count.

Well, it depends on how fast you play it. Glenn Gould plays it at Q=60. Andras Schiff plays it at Q=120.

Gould's recording is 1:30, so I guess Schiff's would be around 0:45, and then everyone else is probably somewhere in between. wink

The fastest piece in the world is Chopin's minute waltz played by me in the cold winters of Norway where I would do it in 20 seconds so I could get back to the warm kitchen. laugh

"Epilogue" from the 1901 edition of MacDowell's "Marionettes" is also only 22 measures long:

The Prelude Op. 28 No. 2 is 23 measures.

Op. 28 No. 9 is 12 measures!

Op. 28 No. 20 is 13 measures.

Op. 28 Nos. 10 and 14 are each 19 measures.

There's a short Beethoven piece in G-minor that's only 13 measures long and it's charming. It's one of the WoO ones, forget the number off the top of my head. There's also a Beethoven Bagatelle from the Op. 119 set that's pretty darn short, though I'm not sure how many measures it is.

Just looked up the Beethoven Bagatelle - it's Op. 119 No. 10 and it's 13 measures (though with a repeat). Played at Allegramente, it's almost over before you realize it even started...
