Sorry, that link doesn't work. Instead, go to http://www.classicalarchives.com/aspire/b.html and scroll down till you see the name "Stephen Brown" (about 2/3 down the page), and click on the link to "Scherzo in A minor for Piano and Orchestra." Sorry this is so complicated.

Ah, I love a pastorale... (Just kidding. ) If you want a layman's opinion, I think it's great. David

I hope you aren't a composition major.

Did you have your malice beaten into you, Spock, or is it just a gift?

Spock,
I am always gracious for intelligent criticism. If you have any specific suggestions, please let me know. I am well aware that symmetrical phrasing, tonality, and traditional forms are out of vogue right now, but I am comfortable with this neo-neoclassicism. Within these parameters, however, what aspects do you think should be revised in the future.
For the record, I am a piano major, not a composition major, but I also enjoy trying to write as well as possible.
Thanks,
Stephen

As for the piece, I think it's fine. Some interesting pianistic ideas and good interplay between piano and orchestra. I'm not totally convinced by some of the orchestration (some of the low brass writing is a little cluttered - could just be the MIDI though.) I've heard a lot of student composer works (I went to school at Michigan - a big composition school), and this one stacks up just fine. Keep writing!
