What or where, is UWS?
BTW, you want 'me' to play yet another MH AA and drool once again after my note just posted on 'loving the one at Piano Craft'? Not fair!!!
;-)

UWS - Upper West Side.....
Most of my business travel is sending me elsewhere(Anaheim in Sept, Toronto in Oct, and Tuscon in Nov). I'm in NYC on 11/5 (taking my wife to see Les Miserables when it comes back to Broadway)....so I'll probably miss it - but I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable time....
Wonder if I could convince my wife to have one @ our house.....

Piano party? I've never heard of such a thing before.
What is it that you do there, exactly? Play the piano and discuss techniques, etc.?

Good grief, sweet_melody, you've never heard of a piano party??!! Well, neither had I prior to finding PW. You'll have to check out another forum section titled: Forum Members Tours, Parties, Meetings. This area on the forum will give you a reivew of what typically occurs at a piano gathering. Usually, after a piano gathering, members will post pics from their event and provide a review of the music that was played and more importantly who was in attendance and what type of food was served!! Welcome to the PW, sweet_melody. Hopefully, someday you'll have an opportunity to attend a gathering.

How about late September, early October? Really, late September will work better for me as I may be on vacation at the beginning of October. Hey Linda! How are you? Nice to 'see' you, hope your summer went well.

Linda and Bernard :
Nice to "see" both of you, too, and I'm glad to see that you're both still working on things piano. If I were near New York, I'd join you. Alas, however .... although I'm not complaining about being where I am!
Regards,

Jeffrey, I've never been to a piano party, and like sweet_melody would like to know more about what kind of party it is, do you have to play the piano, or can you enjoy hearing others "do their thing". I don't feel confident enough to play in front of anyone. Should we bring anything with us? Thanks for the info - reading these threads it sound like a fun time.

Hello Bruce! So great to see you (your avatar), too! I hope that life is good in Victoria. Yes, I'm still plugging away at the keyboard. Within the next 2 years, I hope to be at the point where I can attend the Victoria summer music camp. It would be fun to really see you at that time. Until then, I'll be sure to raise a glass of bubbly in your honor at the Phila-NY-DC area parties! . . . Linda

musdan and sweet_melody:[/b] These are informal parties where we get together to play for and with each other. The developmental level in the core group of party goers ranges from beginner to professional. I'm currently at the late beginner/early intermediate level and have been attending PW parties since I first began playing. Everyone is very supportive of each other! You do not need to play if you don't feel comfortable playing. I do, however, suggest that you bring some of your music - just in case you change your mind. You won't find a kinder, more generous group of people with whom to play. I have learned a great deal from the folks who attend both the NY and DC area parties. I generally bring some munchies as my contribution to the party. (We socialize as well as play the piano.) You are also welcome to bring a spouse, friend, children (just let Jeffrey know how many people are coming). Grotriman often brings his two boys, Lex and Oliver. Fingers's son, Ben, has also joined us a couple of times. I really enjoy having the children join in with us - even though they play better than do I. Hope to see you at the next party . . . Linda

Put me down as a tentative. To those who haven't attended a PW Forums party before, they really are a lot of fun! Everyone is very supportive, and there is no need to be shy about playing. I'm probably one of the least skilled players in the group (in spite of the fact that I own Piano World :-) ), but I still bang out a couple of my old rock n' roll arrangements, and have fun doing it. Whether I make it or not, don't forget to take pictures, and remember... we expect a group shot under/around the piano (a PW Forums tradition)! P.S. There's another party forming down the Cape... http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/22/109.html

musdan - The date is Sunday, Sept. 24th at 2:30, unless there are a large number of potential partyers who cannot go then. Hope to see you there!! Everyone should PM me for exact directions. - Jeffrey

I'd be coming from far northern Westchester so, if weather's not a problem, I'd like to make it. Alas, I don't know how to PM so maybe someone could email address?

Jeffrey,
Much thanks to you and Mrs. Jeffrey (and little Jeffrey -- how beautiful and sweet) for hosting a wonderful get together this afternoon. It was just what the doctor ordered.
I'm amazed at the difference in your playing, Jeffrey, and your approach to the piano. Speaking of which: it's beautiful, a very fine instrument.
Linda, every time we get together it seems you have climbed several levels in ability. Good on you for tackling the Brahms! Go for it!
jon-nyc, I can't believe you're getting so little practice these days. You're sounding amazing. The fluidity of the Sonatine was great.
It was scary (at first) but refreshing to get the much needed experience of playing in front of others again and it felt good.
It was great. The low key atmosphere was, as I said, just what the doctor ordered.
Thanks Jeffrey.

I agree with Bernard - it was the perfect, intimate setting and just what the doctor ordered for me, too! Jeffrey - my sincere thanks to you and your family for hosting this gathering. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful piano. I was happy to enjoy the company of your good fortunes! Your new piano and your new teacher are clearly paying off in terms of your musical development. Your entire demeanor at the piano has changed. You appear much more relaxed and confident and you sound much more musical than you did just a short while ago. I double-checked on that Bach Prelude that you are playing. I was wrong about the grade level. It is not an RCM Grade 4 Repertoire selection - it is a Grade 5!!!!![/b] Nice going, Jeffrey! jon-nyc and Bernard - it is such an inspiration to watch and listen to you play. I don't know if you realize how important it is for beginning students to be able to interact with more accomplished pianists. I truly value my time with you and am grateful for your patience with my questions. You enable me to learn without ever making me feel inadequate - and you are just otherwise all-around good eggs! Jon, as Bernard mentioned, your Sonatine is amazing and I can hardly fathom your ability to play the piece with such fluidity given your travel schedule and inaccessibility to a piano for such long chuncks of time. It was also great to hear the Brahms 117/2. Once I get 117/3 down, I think I'll just have to try the 117/2. I hope that you decide to take ownership of the entire set. Bernard, I've always admired your Brahms interpretation (I love your 118/2). This time, you also delighted me with your Beethoven. It was exquisite! You have found a way to marry your innate sensitivity and your training in Alexander Technique to create a very powerful musical experience. Thanks, again, to everyone for a great afternoon! . . . Linda
