I played the C# Minor Posthmus Nocturne last year at a competition and won it. I loved it very much, and the singing right hand melody is absolutely beautiful and sad.

Haizel - just keep at it, these things take time. If you think the piece may be too hard for now then work on something else.

I just LOVE the way 9.1 opens. It reminds me of leaves floating in the fall.

Today I will gladly share my experience and advice, for there are no sweeter words than, "I told you so."

Since no one else has mentioned it.... 55-2 is a great one. I'm learning it now. I've also played 72-1.

My favourites are 15/2 and 15/3...gorgeous. #2 especially. I like 48/1 as well (mainly because it breaks the genre a bit...very interesting)

Opus 9 No.1

For the piece itself and its significance to me. It was a turning point in my music education, almost epiphanical in a way.

I will always love that piece.

I can't add anything to BruceD's nominations of 27.1 and 27.2 -- they're at the top of my list too. But I'm surprised no one has spoken up yet for either of the Op. 62 nocturnes, whose harmonies and melodies are reminiscent of the Bminor sonata (Op. 58 -- big surprise). I've loved the Bmajor 62.1 since I heard Cliburn play it in the early '60s -- the cantabile melodies and unusual modulations are just gorgeous.

Haizel,

I basically started from not too much and had 9.2 memorized in about 3 months. I am in my 4th month now and I can play it quite well, but never all the way through perfectly. I just make flubs all over the place in no specific area. Usually 4-5 flubs/playing. I am working and working on getting that to 0. I hope to have it perfectly (whatever that means) polished in another month.

I don't know if that helps you or not, but it is what happened with me.

Now I am on 15.2 and 27.2 I am learning them MUCH faster than I did 9.2
