Ah, the Khachaturian Concerto... a guilty pleasure of the exotic variety. That shattering climax in the slow movement is sufficient to wake the dead.

Anyone interested in K's rather shallow -but always effectively written- music should check out the 3rd Symphony. Its unaplogetic, giddy bombast almost defies belief. And a feast for organ buffs too... wow

Sam ...Thank you so much for sharing. So inspiring. I needed this inspiration as I am returning to classical piano ...the last months... after 40 years away. I played only popular the last 40 years. Starting with Chopin for now. Thank you again. Sandy B

Kapell's recording of this is amazing, it's a great piece. I'd love to learn it!

It's kind of movie music, but he really sells it.

As Max said, Kappel's recording is the benchmark.

Koji said there are 2 Kapell recordings -- one studio, one live. I have the one that came with the 10-CD William Kapell Edition, and I don't know if it's live or <strike>dead</strike> studio; but Koji said it's the other one that's the best. wink
