Hi, I'm new here as I usually hang out in the Piano Forum section. I searched and didn't find any mention of this as a prior topic, so...[warning, non-classical question---approach with caution]

What are some of your favorite New Age piano pieces to play for enjoyment?

Since this question has come up, can somebody please tell me exactly what "New Age" music is ? What distinguishes it from other music ? What would make me say, "Ah, that's a New Age piano piece" ? What is the name of somebody who plays New Age piano music, and whose recordings are available ? I've asked family and friends and can't get a sensible answer.

I like George Winston pieces, but most people that want to play them know you can't find music to them.

Recently some re-releases of george winston CD's have included some sheet music (each re-release has the sheet music for one song).

I like Jim Brickman music (hmm.. as I type this I'm wondering if I'm going to get slammed... oh well, I like it what can I say). A couple of my favorites are Lake Erie Rainfall and Do You Believe. There are many other Jim Brickman pieces and it's pretty easy to find sheet music.

David Lanz also has a couple of songs I like. I'm drawing a complete blank on the names of them right now.

Couple years ago, Korean published a collection of George Winston's Piano Score (probably illegal ) If you search george winston in Yahoo, you can find a site that you can download the pieces.

But you won't find Vience Dreammer and Mile City Train, which are my favorites

iamcanadian... that is funny. I saw part of one of his shows on cable. Saturday Night Live should do a skit on this guy. He was onstage in a long flowing white gown like he was a high priest surrounded by banks of keyboards. The orchestra members had to be bored to tears as they were all playing the same 3 chords over and over. But I really know nothing about his music as I turned the channel quickly.

I have a c-d of Suzanne Ciani, called Pianissimo.

Also, she has a music book with pieces from that and other c-ds.

It's romantic, emotional music to play late at night.

I like Enya, but the only collection of her work I have is so simplified I don't enjoy playing any of it. When I bought that collection, I didn't know enough to realize that pieces can be so simplified that they lose their soul.

George Winston is also a favorite. Highway Hymn Blues is one of my favorites that he does. I also like his version of Cast Your Fate to the Wind better than Guaraldi's version. But, along with most others none of the sheet music is available.

I also checked out from the library a CD by Peter Kater (Spirit I think was the album title) and really enjoyed that. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of the pieces now. Guess I'll check that out again!

I don't know if that means you like him or don't. I'll tell you, though, I watched one of my Stevie Ray Vaughn concerts last night and afterwards I busted my guitars up into matchsticks.

Well, not really, but I felt like it. Some people are just *too* good.

Re the George Winston sheet music site mentioned above, I had already found that and am learning his version of Carol of the Bells.

I am trying to find this book but I can't locate it on the web. The closest I can find is the one below but I don't think it's the same one you mentioned.

I would add the name of Liz Story to the list. Her music is on the Windham Hill CD label and lots of her music is published. And, she married a pretty darn good bass man.
