Horowitz (a recording not meant for distribution in 1941), Rachmaninoff, Volodos, Argerich and Kissin round off my favorite Rach 3 performances. But I'll give this one a listen. (Basing it solely on the time to perform each movement, I estimate it'll be too slow for my tastes, but hey, sometimes slow can be exciting...we'll see how it goes.)
EDIT: After review, I found the piece to be performed quite near the tempo at which I enjoy it. (I think the unusual break-up of the 2nd movement threw me off when looking at the "minutes".) However, I think this particular pianist was trying to "keep up" with the tempo most of the time, and would have benefited by slowing down just ever-so-slightly that it may not have been noticable...but would've made all the difference in a few places where "things got a little 'out-of-the-hands'".
Not a bad performance, though... I'm not so vain that every performance has to be perfect to be good. ("There is something about art and perfection that is contradictory...")
