Is Hamelin as impressive in this type of repertoire as he is in his Alkan, Medtner etc? I'm going to be in toronto at that time, should I buy some tickets and make a short trip to montreal?

I would love to go to that. I think that me and a friend may go on a road trip and visit alot of Canada that I haven't seen. I would love to go to Toronto to see the Gould Conservatory. I would love to visit Montreal and see all of the amazing things that are to be seen. Thanks for the heads up, and though I won't make it to that concert I'm sure that there will be something intereting going on....

A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment one man contemplates it bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

He is "impressive" in anything he plays. Clues to his approach to Rachmaninov can be found in his Medtner, since the two composers share a common background, aesthetic, friendship, etc... Hamelin would certainly be aware of and sensitive to the relationship between the two composers, and I'm sure that his performance of the "Rocky Third" will rank among the best. If I could, I'd be there.
