Anyone have information on Schomacker Player Piano that uses QRS rolls ? I'm trying to date one with a serial number of 97578. All I could find was a little blurb in the Bluebook of Pianos that stated Schomacker was the famous "Gold String" piano founded in Philadelphia in 1838. I'm also looking for tips on what needs to be done to get the the action out. Overall the piano is not in bad shape but needs some regulation work- a few keys are sticking and some hammers bobble and tuning assuming the pin torque checks out. Hammers could also use a little filing due to the string cuts in them.

Piano Atlas says it was built in 1921. No help on how to get the action out, though.... \:\(

There is also a pic in the Atlas of a Schomacker grand with a Rosewood case. If you like them heavily carved, this piano is for you. The legs are so heavily carved it looks as though the piano is ready to walk away.

Steve... thanks for the response. I'll figure out how to get the action out. One neat little feature was a trap door on the kick panel. When you pushed a lever the door slid open and there
where two pedals that folded down so you could
pump the piano if the electricity goes out. Since we are in hurricane country it could come in handy. Already there is talk of having a
piano party in the rec hall when the light go out during the next storm. Before I even attempt any work on this beast I am going to check the
torque in the tuning pins given its age of 80+
