What is the minimum that would be done when these bridges are installed?
Strings?

As far as I know, string replacement is not necessary. There's a whole Wapin thread in the Piano Forum. More info: http://www.wapin.com/ --Cy--

They need to be loosened and out of the way to expose the top of the bridge. After the bridge is converted, the strings are pulled back up to pitch and tuned. This presents some extra work as opposed to doing the conversion during the course of restringing, but it is commonly done. I have done 18 Wapin installations to date, and have been pleased with the results. Most of those have been during the course of rebuilding, but 5 or 6 have been straight conversions without restringing. It does make a nice difference in the sound.

By the way, if you are interested in hearing a few Wapinized pianos, let me know. I see from your webpage that you are north of Columbus, which isn't a long drive.
There is a Steinway D at OSU in Columbus which has Wapin. I don't know any details regarding where on campus it is. One of the other local rebuilding shops did that one.
