I have an old cable and nelson..its old, I just don't know how. Well, the piano tuner was by to tune in 3 days ago. I asked him if it was in good shape and he said YES!! I have no cracks in my soundboard, my pins are in good shape, the strings are ok...little old but nice. When I first purchase this piano from this lady she said that her mom left immediately for florida and she was left with this piano. I get my piano tuned 2 times per year in michigan. My question is this: Do you think I should look for a more upto date piano? I was reading an article and a guy said in the piano forum that Cable & Nelson had terrible sound and its not worth having them in your home. My piano tuner said that he would keep it cause its in good condition unless I just don't like it. I have been thinking about getting a full size 88 key board. What do you think I should do. Keep the piano? Trade it in for a later model while its still in good shape? How do you all think out there? I dont kow the age of the piano either. Thanks :p

Without seeing this piano, it's hard to provide a definate answer to all your questions, but the Cable Nelsons I've seen have been a little above average, but not excellent. Usually the workmanship has been good, the tone varies, depending on the amount of wear. The key touch if properly regulated is better than most of that time period. An electronic keyboard will not have the same piano type key touch as your cable, but the tone will probably be better. The value of your cable won't substantially decline in the foreseeable future, as long as the tuning pins remain tight, so don't worry about that. Based on your techs appraisal, keep the cable, or spend several times the cable's value on a comperable new piano. By the way, look for a serial number by the tuning pins. We'll be able to date your piano then.
