Is sewing machine oil a good lubricant for piano action parts?

No. No oil is a good lubricant for piano action parts. (Also -- don't use WD-40 or any product with silicone anywhere near a piano.)

Get in touch with a piano service supplier and get some Protek CLP. Use it gently.

I've never found a decent lubricant for action centers, other than (occasionally) methanol.

If the center pin is too tight or corroded, it simply has to be replaced before a noticeable improvment is acheived.

In rare cases, methanol can help by shrinking the bushings slightly.

Powdered teflon on hammer butts, knuckles, whippen pads and key bushings is great stuff.

Protec is okay with metal-to-metal situations, or on drop screws that are frozen in old wood. But it's never worked for me on action centers.

I've had some great luck with Protek on action centers. I've found it necessary to move the joint through its motion range a number of times while the Protek is still wet.

The immediate result is noticeable, but the day after seems to be as bad.

I've had many joints stay permanently loosened after such a treatment. Perhaps it depends on what was causing the tightness in the first place.

What have you found to be the best way to deliver Protek to the action centers. I used to remove the flange, and lubricate, but now I just replace the pin...it is almost there anyways...

Is there a way to deliver protek without unscrewing anything?

There is a way, definitely, to deliver Protek into the action center. I use a disposable syringe.

Now, is there a way to deliver Protect to me in Dubai, U.A.E.? I'm fast running out of it and when I ordered from a famous piano supply shop they told me it can't be shipped because it's flammable. Are they right?
