This is a technique for tightening loose tuning pins. An alternative is to replace the pins with larger diameter ones.
The problem with "hammering" pins is that this changes the angle of the string with possibly adverse effect.
There will be no damage to the pinblock in a vertical piano from driving pins in further and no damage in a grand piano, if the pinblock is adequately supported from below with a jack.
By the way, my family is from Casalborgone, also in the province of Torino, near Cinzano.

If your tech hammered a number of pins in a row, there's a pretty good chance that you have a split lamination in your pinblock that affects all those pins. Any kind of repair at this point is just trying to make the pins hold so that the piano can be tuned. The block is already in bad shape, so you don't really need to worry about damaging it further. I've heard some wild stories of repairs that involved soaking epoxy or polyester resin into the block to avoid replacing it. Anyone know if this kind of repair can work? Might be useful on less valuable pianos.

Yeah super glue is commonly used on those, cyanoacrylate, a super fast acrylic resin. Few weeks ago I saw epoxy poured on a soundboard re-crowning restoration, extremely high quality materials and craftsmanship.

CA, when referring to glues, stands for cyanoacrylate. Super glue is also CA. A big caveat is that there are many types of CA glue, and the stuff used for pin blocks is usually the thinnest quickest setting type. For some idea of the wide variety of CA glues available check out the Loctite website.
