I have to service a Yamaha upright later today. The client told me that the bench is squeaking and it is driving her crazy. It is a high gloss finish. Any tips to remove or reduce
the squeaks will be welcome. Buying a new bench is not an option..... Since I haven't seen or heard the squeaks I have no idea where they come from but maybe they are where the legs attach to the corners .

That's usually where they come from. Make sure that the nuts that hold the legs on are tight, but not so much as to bend the plate that the bolt goes through.

Otherwise, you might need to do something to make sure that the legs do not move up and down against the side of the bench. Worst comes to worst, you might drill a hole diagonally from the bottom of the bench side into the leg and stick a peg in it, but that is a serious undertaking.

Eureka !!! I solved the problem by removing each leg one at a time and putting felt strips on the 2 edges of the bench rim that the legs fit into.
I used self adhesive name board/fall board felt.
When it was done there where no squeaks. The bench was made in Korea but the piano was a Yamaha U2.

I like the felt strip method myself. Sometimes the lids can squeak too.
