I would very much appreciate any help or an opinion on the sound I hear when the hammer hits the backcheck. I have a two week old piano and I can hear this noise on several keys. Is it normal to hear this?

Ooops, hit the wrong button. Let's try again. CW, there isn't enough information to give you a complete answer. In general, backcheck function should be silent. BUT: is it a grand or a vertical? What kind of noise are you hearing? How many keys make the noise? Is it getting worse? Have you talked to your dealer? I think that would be my first suggestion, if there is an unusual noise not heard in other instruments, it would seem a call to the selling dealer would make sense. Hope this helps....PNO2NER

Sorry CW, I should have looked first in the general forum where you asked the same question. The answers there are good and far more complete than mine. My opinion? Use a different technician, even if you have to pay his fee. That way he won't be influenced by the dealer who pays him. Just a thought. PNO2NER

Thank you so much for your help. Maybe I'm looking for perfection in something that is inherently imperfect. What I hear is the sound of the key hitting the backcheck when I play quietly, softly and slowly. I hear the noice of the hammer tail hitting and rubbing against the buckskin(?) of the backcheck. It is much more prevelent on a dozen or so keys than on others. The know that actions can make noise even on the so called premium pianos, but to what extent. No one hears it other than me unless I have come down close to the keys. Maybe I should use earplugs? \:D
