I have just come into possesion of an 1855 Chickering Box Grand. This has rosewood finish and has been in a back bedroom for at least the last 50 years. My Aunt never even played the piano and neither do I. The shape and finish is perfect. Not a scratch and looks like it still has the factory strings and is missing only some of the striker pads that hit the string. I am trying to sell this but, I have no idea even what to start asking. Can someone give me a ballpark asking price. This thing id museum quality. I mess with antiques and this is the best I have ever seen for an 1855-56 year old piece. Please e-mail me or leave post aarrssnn2@aol.com THANK YOU

Good luck. If it is a typical square grand like I have seen, they are hated by piano technicians, including myself. The were not very good pianos when they were new, having one and two string unisons. They are backbreakers to tune, having to reach to the back of the piano for the tuning pins. I have yet to see any piano on Antique Roadshow and have found nothing on antique value of pianos. Parts are near impossible to find and many must be hand made. A cheap Wurlitzer spinet has a better sound. I have heard of removing the insides and using it for some kind or cabinet. Also I have often thought of putting an electronic keyboard inside. I really hope I am wrong. Please let me know if you learn anything. Sorry for the bad News, but notice, I am the only response after two weeks. Thammer
