I thought this would be a good place to ask this question, since some of you probably have or do tune the pianos used for performances, rehearsals etc. throughtout the Lincoln Center Complex

Every once in a while I get a letter from Lincoln Center requesting that I take a look at their pianos on sale to make room for new instruments.

I've never taken them up on this, but wonder what shape the pianos are in and the cost, never mentioned in the letter. My guess is that are kept in top condition but probably overworked if that's the term.

It would be interesting to learn what you have to say and it would be a big help to me and others.

Some may have been used/abused in practice rooms. Others more lightly used as accompanyment instruments. And then a few used for recitals/performances. The latter two may very well be good deals. Hire an unaffiliated tech. to go with you next time and let us know what you find.

The crucial question is: Which part of Lincoln Center did these pianos come from? That is, Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theater, Avery Fisher or Juilliard? There would be worlds of difference, of course, in each of these but your absolute best bet is to take a technician with you for evaluation . . .
