I have 21 years old Chickering piano, made in Rochester, which I bought new for $2700 (21 years ago)and I would like to sell it now for price that is fair to both buyer and seller. Could somebody advise me, please what is it worth. It is Queen Anne Cherry styled upright console 42 inches high in good condition, I controlled it's humidity with electric bar installed in it and it is just out of tune now. Also, should I get it tuned prior to selling it.
All your inputs and recommendations would be appreciated.

If you dont keep it in tune, its not being kept in good condition. Good luck.

Provided that there is no structural damage (pin block, soundboard), and the case is in good condition, you could sell it privately for $3000 or more. I recommend that you have it tuned and ask the tuner while he's there what he thinks. You might sell it for $3000 when it's worth $4000.

Non sequitor, Barber. "It is just out of tune now" does not mean "I don't keep it in tune", and I have played a few very well maintained concert grands in off season that might, before tuning, be called "just out of tune". That was a pretty steep generalisation.
