A few years ago I heard an amazing story of a technician who bought a Steinway B in reasonable shape for next to nothing. ever since then I have always found the time to peruse the print and online classifieds for my own diamond in the rough.

Enevitably I run into ads of varying levels of hilarity. Here are a couple of my latest finds.

http://boston.craigslist.org/msg/182498406.html

"Henderson Cabinet Grand piano (upright) for the taking....The instrument rarely needs to be tuned."

lol

And in my local paper:

"Betsy Ross Spinet $850.00 (What?!) Holds It's Tuning For Years!"

Share any funny or interesting ones you find here as well....

OMG.... Those are hilarious. That Henderson "cabinet grand," is a DOG! LOL

I love the ones where you see some beat up POS somewhere, and the owner proudly tells you, "It's an ANTIQUE!!"

Pffffft... Yeah, it's an antique. AND? Whatever.. Forgive me for not being so very impressed. LMAO

That's a real find, Lex. It's missing its keytops altogether, *and* must be craned out of the apartment!

That's just great: a Julliard student commenting on the rich, warm "base". Almost as good as when my high school vice-principal (and, of course, football coach) when announcing band honors said someone got an honorable mention on the "bass" (as in fish) clarinet!! And let's not forget the piano in "First time poster" that had "all keys in place"!!! HAHAHAHA!!

I dunno. It looks suspiciously like that "imposter" in that wanted poster the other day.

I saw this and immediately thought of this thread:

Upright Piano[/b]

Taking up garage room. Needs tuning, but you can't beat the price. Must have own truck for delivery but can get assistance in loading (depending on time and day). It is an old Wurlitzer, probably late 1930's.

I recall seeing an ad in the bargain corner once which said, "Car, $200, runs. Piano, most keys play, free".

From Ebay today:

"Chickering Baby Grand piano, very nice condition. Rebuilt and tuned within past week. New pin block, new strings, new bass strings, new action, new weapons[/b], new hammers. Red mahogany semi-gloss finish. Donated to voice school, but we do not have space for it."
