Hi I'm new at this. Have an urgent question.
Am thinking very seriously about purchasing this 1970 Steinway, and it has light rust in the strings (was in Hawaii for 30 years) And has Teflon bushings (remember Steinway made with this for about 20 years, and ended up going back to cloth flank bushings for bad reviews on top of unforseen problmes) Has not been in tune for years, hammers are in fairly good condition. The keys are rubbed off, marked off/ at the all the edges toward the pianoist. The middle pedal is not working. Is it safe to assume that other parts of the wood part of the piano is dammaged as well due to the humidity. What do you think?
Sound of the piano is not really what I am looking for, it has not been tuned for years.
Would this improve with tuning and voicing?
Is this a good buy at the price of $19000.00?
Help!!!

So my question is

You didn't indicate what model Steinway this is which can make a BIG difference in price(and therefore how good a deal you'd get).

The teflon issue is quite relevant. Exposed to drier climates, the action eventually acquires audible clicking sounds.

In my rebuilding facility, my partner and myself have a model B from '67 and knew from the start that a thoroughgoing restoration would require us to replace the hammers and shanks since the original teflon was there.

So if you were to purchase this with the intention of keeping a long time, you'd have to figure in the costs for the replacement procedure I indicated above. Tuning and voicing alone are not enough to adequately improve it.
