Anyone install a set of WNG Backchecks yet?
My new hammer set - purchased unbored & uncoved & otherwise uncut - are (some of them anyway) just a bit too short to get the required 25.4mm beyond bore.

You didn't specify overall length? You must not be ordering from Ronson. Save those hammers for another piano and get the right ones for the piano you are working on. You need a 1 inch tail minimum. Too much chance of grabbing the check on the way up when you get it to check close enough.

I am trying to make a set work that I have had for a couple of years.
As Isaac's are my preference all sets I get have been the same length - uncut in anyway - I think it is his standard for grand hammers and ordering them precut is always shortening them - I thought they may work but will not.
I don't know if Ari makes them longer, it has never been an issue in the past and I am a little suprised.
Do you know if the overall length for note 25 is at least 83.5mm for the Ronson - uncut?

You can have him cut the moulding to what ever length you want for the hammer. Some we have had to cut the hammer to get a 1 1/8" tail. They had been ordered long.
Ray will also give you any width you want and if you have an upright, the hammers may taper in length. He says you add shims under the moldings to give the original amount of felt on the hammer. That is so the first part of the tenor matches up with the bass, which is not tapered on some uprights
Let's see, the bore distance on a Steinway bass hammer is 2 5/8" plus a 1 1/8" tail = 3.75 = 95.25mm.
With a one inch tail, take off 3.175 ~ 91mm
Take off 1/2 inch or 12.7mm for the treble. 2 1/8 bore.
You didn't say how many note bass.
