Were 1980 - 2000 Yamaha studio hammers hard

Looking on Yamaha's site, I see the verticals having 19 - 22 pound hammers. The studio model has 14.5 and I was wondering if it has had softer hammers for 25 years or so. My 1967 M1 has very hard hammers and I don't know if it is age or they have had those hard hammers for a long time. Some 1980 Baldwin Studio models I was easily able to make mellow, even thought they had heavy wear.

I believe all Yamahas have hard hammers. The pound rating doesn't mean much.

I think the older Yamahas had harder hammers that got brittle faster than the newer ones. I think the improvement was in the 1980s, more towards the end of the decade. But it's hard to compare.
