Hi David,

Anyone can join. You, me or your neighbor. All they need to do is send in a check for $25 a year, I think it is "claiming" to be a piano tuner and just that fast, they are now, a "Master Piano Technician" or at least, that is my understanding of it. To my knowledge, they do not turn any one away.

There is no testing required for joining that I've ever been made aware of.

http://www.master-piano-techs.org/About_Us.html

Frankly I've not been to impressed with them.

There is only one local RPT here that is a member of it and I personally believe he is only a member because of the fact that it says "Master Piano Technician" and he can say that on his stationary. But, then, you can say that without it too right? \:D

Ah the devil doth move me mightly fingers to toes. (Don't tell the Baptists!)

There might be a real business opportunity here. We each could form a no test group, print up some nifty diplomas, (Be a Magnus Tuner!), charge 25 bucks a head and buy some extra beer. Easy money.

Perhaps a lively game that begins with drinking 10 beers(or the equivalent 8 Canadian ones)and setting the cleanest unison (root beer drinker is the judge)will separate the men from the boys. All in all don't forget the most important thing...dolium volvitur
(An empty cask is easily rolled)

Vah! Denuone Latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur.
(Oh! Was I speaking Latin again? Silly me. Sometimes it just sort of slips out.)

To get back on topic . . .

The MPT organization holds a "convention" many years. I have taught at one, and that was enough. Not worth the cost for me to go teach. The convention was over-hyped by the person organizing it, and only 25 or so technicians came. Most of them were older and not working very actively as technicians, and mainly wanted a tax deductable vacation.
