I am thinking of purchasing a Yamaha U7 built in 1985. The cabinet is teak. Does anyone have any information about the quality of these or history of particular problems? Thanks

I played a couple of these when I was shopping for a piano. Certainly seemed decent, although I decided in the end that I needed a grand instead.

I should add, I bought a Yamaha G5 made in 1980 and I am very happy with it.

It is not that necessary to buy such a high-end upright. A 1970's yamaha G series grand is too much better than that.

I used to tune one just like what you describe. It was one of the best sounding/playing/tuning uprights I've ever seen.

(1998-2002 it was never off more than 7 cents from where I left it - I documented humidity ranges in the 30-65% range during different seasons...)
