Hey! Is this a good recipe for recoating sharps?

http://www.ptg.org/pipermail/pianotech/2004-January/148296.html

I don't want it to wear quickly, so that I have to redo it again after a short period of time. And I don't want the keys to look like plastic. How did they do it in the old times?

It seems reasonable. But it is hard to say how well it will last. Be sure to clean the keys well before you spray them. Lacquer thinner would be a good cleaner.

The old time sharps didn't last that well. They probably used something like shellac, which is very hard. You could use that instead of urethane.

I'd rather replace the sharps with plastic, and will always do that if the sharps are worn. I'd rather have good, uniform keys rather than worn, uneven ones. Besides, urethane is a plastic coating.

I'd rather not replace with plastic sharps, because there's not a single plastic part in the piano now. I think it would loose some of its elegance, for want of a better word.
