For some of you who have read my posts, I have been making great progress on working on the action in my piano. The piano definitely has taken on a sweeter tone since I have made many of the action adjustments after filing hammers. The one thing I have noticed though is that the upper 16 notes or so hit so close to the ridge where the strings go over that a very tiny amount more and they would actually be hitting it. This makes them sound so harsh that you can barely make out the note. Are they really supposed to be that close or should they be striking lower?
Thanks.

The top hammer should be hitting about 1/4" below the nut. You can adjust this when replacing hammers, or by adjusting the bolts that the action rests on. Keep in mind that it can be difficult to see exactly where it is hitting.

BDB forgive my ignorance. "below the nut"? Not sure where exactly you mean. This is an upright if that makes a difference.

The pressure bar forming the top of the speaking length. It is a general term for stringed instruments.
