I'm thinking about buying a used Steinway- its about 25 years old. I definitly will be getting my tech to look at it, but in the meantime... apparently this piano has teflon something action (or something like that- you can tell I don't know much!!) and I was just wondering what that was. The other thing is that all three pedals hardly depress at all- maybe 3/4 of an inch or something. Sound-wise they do their job but it feels really odd. Is this normal or this something drastically wrong? Is there anything I should be especially wary of looking at this piano?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

This piano has teflon bushings instead of felt. The idea was that teflon wouldn't stick in high humidity like felt bushings can. Each note on your piano has 8 or more bushings where each part is hinged. Bushings too tight, and the hinge sticks. Bushings too loose and the part wobbles and/or makes noise. Teflon didn't work well as a long term bushing material. Many teflon actions have been replaced as a result. The cost of replacement is significant.
