Hi...

I saw a crack line at the at the section where the tuning pins are located. (Well I am not very sure is a crack line or some poor quality control).
The crack line is it a manufacturer defect?
Will there be any side effect to the tuning stability.
I understand from a technician, he was saying that there is huge tension on the frame. Will the frame colapse?

Sorry to hear that. I'm not a tech, but as I understand it a cracked plate is a dead piano.

What sort of piano is it? Sure it's not just a crack/scratch in the paint?

Well Dave, is a friend's piano and is a chinese made.

Don't think is a scratch on the paint from the look at it. The crack line (as thick as a sheet of paper) starts from the pressure bar all the way down. I dont know if it is a dead piano but the crack line is not at the main skeleton (not sure what you call that).

That is clearly a manufacturing defect but I rather doubt the tuning stability would be affected.

Most often that phenomenon occurs when there is a crack on the plate strut(or brace as it's also called).

Just curious, with the crack line continue to crack further or it will just remain as it is?

In my estimation, that crack will most likely not worsen.

Although I can't be sure from your description this crack doesn't sound like it is fatal. However this is a defect that shouldn't be there, and if the piano is relatively new and under warranty I would have an independent technician inspect it and go back to the dealer for remedy.
