I just got a new piano and want to know who to take care of it:

1) We have hardwood floor. Do we need to put carpet or soft cursion underneath the piano?
2) I heart that we need to put some Moth ball inside the piano to prevent insect. Is that true?
3) Do I need Humidifier or Dehumidifier?
4) Are their any special care that we need to keep the piano in good condition

Thanks in advance

Why not ask the dealer who sold it to you. No mothballs needed, unless you have a moth problem in your home. What type of piano, grand or vertical?

I agree that a call to whomever you bought the piano from should help answer your questions. For follow up, the Piano Technicians Guild website has some instructions for piano care, too.

I agree with Curry and Martin, ask your dealer about care. Inside-piano climate control is a local issue. What works in New Mexico probably won't be the right thing for a Washington climate.

As far as carpet or cushioning under the piano, if it sounds too loud, bright, or harsh, I would put SOME kind of sound baffle under it. That's a matter of personal taste though. "Voice" the room to your taste. Whatever you do in that regard won't have any kind of effect on the well-being of your piano.

I would recommend that you put "caster cups" under the piano legs, to protect your hardwood floor from being dented by the weight of the piano. It will also keep the piano from moving during play.

The standard kind that you would put under furniture legs is fine, but you can get fancy ones, too. Let your tuner install them, so that the piano isn't damaged (or a nearby wall!) by tilting.

Thank you for all the responses. The remaining question I have is related to how to protect piano and hardwood floor. Thank you Cy for the "caster cups" info. I have got them from home depot for front legs. Since mine is a upright, so the remaining question is: what is the best way to protect the back bottom part of the piano, should I use an area rug for the whole piano area? How much this will affect the sound of the piano? I am hoping that I can get everything prepared before the piano is delivered so that I don't have to move it again :-).

S, you can put the piano on an area rug without the caster cups to protect the floor. The rug is not going to affect the sound of a vertical, the way it would a grand. So the rug is not an issue in my opinion.

You need 4 casters cups in all. One for each wheel or the piano won't sit level. Of course in some houses the piano won't sit level no matter what you do. A small rug for the pedal and bench area is nice and can be removed for cleaning.
An area rug for the whole piano depends on your decor and such but has nothing to do with the sound of the piano. Keeping the piano 4 inches from the wall will increase the volume in most cases.
