Any new ways to deal with tight jumping Baldwin grand tuning pins. I have tried removing and dusting hole with powered chalk, reaming the hole with a rifle cleaning brush, and backing out the pin a few turns, all with modest success. Got any thing quicker and easier or better?Thammer

Hi Thammer: I ran into the same problem sometime ago and researched through the Piano Technicians Guild publications. The solution seemed to be applying heat to the pin, either through rapid loosening and tightening (1/2 turn swings in each direction) or using a soldering iron to heat. Since each piano is different, I'm not sure how successful these ideas will be in your case, but they might be worth a try. You might try talking to Mr. Kent Webb who now works at Steinway, but formerly was technical manager at Baldwin before they folded. He can be reached at (718)204-3119. Hope this helps......PNO2NER

Perhaps a quicker solution would be to replace the pin with one of quality, as this could be more effective.
