Larry Fine commented about my grand piano, which is a Howard, manufactured by Samick for Baldwin, that it has a German "Schwander action." This is by memory, but I do believe I am remembering the name correctly.

Anyone know whether this is good or bad?

Is it unusual for a piano assembled in the Far East to include assemblies from elsewhere in the world?

For more info on the "mixed ancestry" of this piano, the owner's manual for the piano also states that it has a number of Baldwin-made parts or assemblies, plus "scale design by Baldwin," which is also embossed into the cast plate of the piano.

No wonder some of us inexperienced folks get very confused after a while. Reminds a person of some of today's automobiles, with parts or assemblies made in half a dozen various countries around the world.

Any info appreciated. Just curious.

There are many types of actions, all are loosely based on the Herz doule repetition action of 1822.
Scwander is/was used in some very good pianos.
Look at the Chinese pianos of today. A vast majority of their parts are produced in other countries. So no, this is not unusual.
