I use my Yamaha PTII for pitch and listen. I got a kick out of that fourth string. Incredible piano.
Got the job for voicing and regulation next week, and a bunch of other contacts!!!
Very intimidating at first, the owner is a concert pianist, and the piano is located in a very small room heated by electrical baseboards (welcome to Canada
)...
Well he and another custumer are having a concert series and want me to go voice and tune a Mason and Hamlin in the school theater!!! ( I will actually look at a tension resonator for the first time in my life!!)
Needless to say I am nervous but will not let them see it
You guys always talk about all these brands, but here where I am we have been making pianos for so long that almost all of them are Canadian. Steinway here and there.. Bluthner here(One)... Schimmel there... etc.. minority. Most of my business is older (relatively) Canadian pianos and younger Asians.
In fact it does not matter where they were built, you just do the job. Bring ONE instrument up to par.
Is there a trick (jig/tool/felt??) to mute the fourth string?
