I have recently bought a new Mason & Hamlin AA grand. It was deliverd to my home in early Oct. When should I have my tech perform the 1st in-home tuning?

If he can come in either late Oct or early Dec, which should I pick? I live in the east/north bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, where the raining season starts in Nov/Dec and lasts till Feb/March.

I plan to have 3 tunings in the first year and 2 tunings per year thereafter. Thanks in advance for your advice.

You paid good money for this piano. It should sound good now. Same as if you bought a new car. It should be serviced upon delivery.

Well, Dampp-Chaser says that pianos go through their biggest adaptation to a new environment after five days, and more or less completely adapt after three weeks.

"On delivery" is a little too soon.

Thanks! I have scheduled to have my piano tuned at about 5 weeks from delivery. The alternative would be 3 weeks from delivery.

My dealer recommended 4-6 weeks from delivery, and Larry Fine says in his book that the owner should try to have it done as late as possible (within the dealer's free 1st in-home tuning period, which is usually 1 month).

A new piano's tuning is unstable at best. Moving from the store to customers house makes it worse. After paying thousands of dollars for your piano, I would think you would want it sounding its best immediately. Assuming the piano was bought from a near by store and the customers house is modern (insulated), the acclimation,i/ve found, is a minimal factor to tuning instablilty. The piano should be tuned, ideally, 3 times the first year anyway.

I posted some pictures of my piano being delivered and set up. I might post more after it's tuned.
