Hi:

I currently own a 50" Petrof 125 Upright. The soundboard is 2,123 square inches and the #1 string is 43.3". I am contemplating trading in that piano for a Petrof IV Grand (5'8"). To my surprise, the soundboard on this Grand is actually smaller (1,997 square inches)than my upright, although the #1 string is longer at 49.6". Could someone please comment on whether the smaller soundboard on the Grand is something I should be concerned about? The Grand has a more responsive action but the bass sounds a bit bright (if I closed my eyes I would think I was playing a Yamaha). The bass on my upright is deep and rich. The salesman told me that the bass on the Grand could be voiced to get the mellow sound the Petrof's are known for. My upright was manufactured in 1997 whereas the Grand was manufactured in 1996. Can anyone please give me advice as to whether it makes sense to replace my Petrof upright with a Petrof Grand?

Thanks,

Felix.

Try not to get hung up on things like soundboard and string size. Bottom line- trust your ears and trust your impression of how it feels to you. Get the promise of voicing in writing. Go with your gut.............Sam
