I have two hammers that rub together on a U1 and also one sharp key beside it that dips too far before the hammer strikes. Is this an expesive job to fix. Also, should I look for a tech and tuner to fix as I assume a tuner only tunes.

Most tuners are techs. Some do nothing but tune. Make sure the person you call is comfortable doing both. You can check on the PTG.org website for a list of people in your area.
Hammers rubbing together shouldn't take long to fix. Neither should excessive key dip. Many techs would just do these in the course of a normal tuning. I can't picture either fix taking more than a few minutes.
The hammers are probably rubbing because the flange moved slightly on the rail, causing the hammer mechanism to tilt and rub on it's neighbor. Having all the hammers properly spaced and the hammer flanges tightened might be a good idea. This would take a bit longer.
To limit the key dip, a specific thickness of punching should be inserted at the front rail. Key height at the balance rail pin should be checked first.
Is this an older U1?
Many techs charge a set tuning fee, then an hourly rate after the alotted tuning time is up. Some charge for each specific job performed.

Thanks very much for your reply. Yes this U1 was built in 1983. Only the one key has the dip and only the two (or one out of place) hammers rub.
