"p.s. I am STILL mightily irked by this sentence, which contains not one, but TWO, grammatical errors:" Monica K.

Actually, that's pretty good for eBay fare. I follow computer and tool ads, and many of the sellers obviously use English as a distant second language. It ranges all the way from comical to atrocious!

With current English users using present tense where the past tense is called for, I can't heap too much scorn on the occasional plural possessive goof-up. (... staff of trained professional writers is here ... ) - 'Right?

I do have recollection when I was about 15 in the early 70's. My folks had some work done on the piano that my brother played. I clearly remember the technician driving a Ford Pantera, and I kept thinking, "These guys must make a lot of money."

Keep it fun, and stay motivated!

Jerry Groot, I'm truly touched. You willing to give up your dog house for me. But I'm not sure Fido, The Pit Bull will think too much of that.

Really, using the word with instead of about is correct. If you ask a question about their business plan, they answer you with the business plan. Then they put the smug on. Like you're stupid if you don't understand it. It's a salesmen gimmck.

We've taught him to share Ron. He even has a television in there for you. Might be tad stinky and filled with fleas but, you can manage can't you?

Seriousnessly though. I see the guy is still in the business plan business, but he's on his third picture now! I dont think there's much demand for his business plans, thank goodness.

Now, agreed that the advertiser is up to no good --

But here's how I got into the business ten years ago. I saw a little ad in the local free newspaper. "Learn piano tuning and repair in four Sunday afternoons! Earn $75,000 a year!" I thought you had to be born into the business to do piano work, but here was something fun to try. I called my dad and asked, "How much trouble can I get into doing this?" and he said, "You'll be in trouble if you believe the $75k." So I didn't, but I took the four-Sunday-afternoon course (six total hours for tuning, six total hours for repairs and evaluations, God help us), and I loved the work. A year later I took a one-week intro course at North Bennet Street. That fall I entered North Bennet Street as a full-time piano tech student, and I earned my journeyman certificate and have been working ever since. Do I earn $75k a year? Not even close. Am I really glad I saw the ad? You bet. Would I trust the advertiser with anything beyond repair techniques? Not a bit -- but I'm really glad I saw his ad (and, I know, I am very lucky that things worked out).

It was from this site that I bought the crappy tuning hammer.
When questioned the supplier did offer £6 in compensation for my dissatisfaction, but plainly had not the faintest clue about what he was selling.
I made a sort of fix with Locktite and Plastic Steel !

It is not such a good idea to add to a thread that has been dead for over four years. If you have any new information, please feel free to start your own new thread. You can reference back to old information easily.

While anyone will empathize with your loss and the inadequate tool you purchased, bear in mind that with specialized tools, you usually get what you pay for. The professional technicians here would never in a million years consider buying cheap, poorly made offshore tools. Buyer beware.

There are many threads about buying tuning hammers in the archives if you need more information.

Ah! I now look for the dates - thanks.
However, I have found it impossible to find threads on a particular topics.
For instance - type in "tuning hammer/wrenches" and what is returned is reams of unconnected information.
Any ideas - I even tried the "advanced search".
