OP Vecke Junior Member V Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 16 UK	The section on Steinway 'verdegris' prompts me to mention the mysterious stiffening of centres occasionally on Yamaha pianos. I have experienced hammer-flange centres suddenly stiffening so much that the hammer shank stays raised. On removal of the pin for re-centering, a black carbon-like material appears to have been released. Any explanations?

I see a lot of Yamahas, so if this was a Yamaha phenomenon, it would be showing up.
